My name is Silvia Giragossian. I was diagnosed with scleroderma systemic on July 22, 2010. The rheumatologist also said that I had the disease for the past 3 years. This diagnostic is devastating because scleroderma is a rare terminal disease, approximately 300,000 people have been diagnosed in the United States and the life expectancy is 5 years. In a few words, I was told to enjoy my life day by day because I could die in the next few years. From that dreadful Friday my life as I knew it changed drastically. The doctor also informed me that western medicine did not have a cure nor had hopes for this disease because it was a rare disease. I turned the Internet for answers and got in touch with few people that suffered from the disease and exchanged information. I’m currently treated by a rheumatologist, as well as an Eastern medicine (holistic) practitioner, Angela Sinnett, LAc. Western medicine had little or no treatment for this illness; doctors wait until the scleroderma attacks an organ before they can treat the organ. Eastern Medicine has a different approach to treat illnesses; Eastern medicine practitioners believe that if a meridian is out of balance the must put it back in balance and the problem will correct itself. In addition, I did acupuncture treatments (twice a week) to help balance the meridians, and I prayed a lot…not just for me and my family, but also for the other people who are also suffering from this disease that was unknown to me until I was diagnosed with it. Yesterday, November 1, 2010, I was told that the scleroderma is on remission. The doctor also said that things can change again and to be aware of any skin or circulation changes because they are indicative of the scleroderma returning. The doctor said that the speed of my recovery was remarkable and to continue doing whatever I was doing to keep the disease asleep. I believe that the power of prayer plus the combination of the acupuncture treatments helped me control this otherwise unforgiving disease.

When I was done, I felt relaxed and felt light. That night I experienced a deep sleep, something I have never felt before. Because my body was so free of tension after the treatment I also felt lighter. I would like to have this experience again. Western Medicine seems to hide the problem by numbing the area, but with acupuncture, I felt it’s helping naturally with my own power.
